HTML VS XHTML

April 11, 2008

* XHTML stands for EXtensible HyperText Markup Language
* XHTML is aimed to replace HTML
* XHTML is almost identical to HTML 4.01
* XHTML is a stricter and cleaner version of HTML
* XHTML is HTML defined as an XML application
* XHTML is a W3C Recommendation

XHTML is a cleaner and better coding system for making websites.

Compare and Contrast

TextEdit:
With TextEdit you can manipulate your site way more than with any kind of web creator. With TextEdit you can make the site your own. Some disadvantages are that it takes more time to create the website and more mistakes could be made. I’d use TextEdit if I had a lot of time to make the site, and if I really felt the need to make the site my own, and not use a pre-made template.

iWeb
I personally like iWeb because it’s quick and clean. I like how there’s a wide variety of templates and you don’t have to take a lot of time to figure out the HTML and other coding issues. Some disadvantages are you’re limited to the templates they give you, and you cannot make it 100% your own. I’d use iWeb if I had a short amount of time to make the website and the deadline was irritating me to a point where I can’t do HTML without stressing out.

Google Page Maker
I personally only liked this because of the games. The templates are kind of plain and there are not many of them at all. I don’t like this one and I am not going to post any advantages about it because I don’t think there are any that iWeb doesn’t have. I’d only use this to play the games they have and to make a plain website if it was a quick job.

Out of all of them I think I’d use iWeb the most, but TextEdit is not really a problem for me either. I prefer both of them over Google Page Maker for sure.

If I could create a web page designer I’d make something like iWeb, but possibly give them more options for templates. Also there would be an option where they could edit the template with HTML.

On all these websites the navigation seems to be where is fits the site layout more. Not necessarily on the right, as much as the left. I actually tend to see it varying more between along the header and on the left. That’s where my eye goes first if I am looking for navigation.

Company logos can usually be found on the upper left hand corner, but once again it really depends on the creator. I’ve seen logos in the header, and on the bottom of the website. It really depends on where it fits best with the current website being used.

The header and footer however remains in the same place on every website. The names basically lock each image in their places.
Header- “Head”- Top.
Footer- “Foot”- Bottom.

Beauty behind websites

  • HTML: It’s the code behind the beauty of websites. Without HTML and other elements on coding, the website would be plain and unoriginal.

    First day in Web Design….

    January 30, 2008

3 Key important points: -A grade will be given each day weather you are on task or not.
-Late work will be reduced up to 50%, 10% each day for 5 days. -Students should act in a profession manner, showing respect for themselves and their teacher.

    Ask 2 questions:

    - Who will be able to see our websites?
    - What will we be putting on the websites?

    When a student is absent:
-Excused: The student can make up late work by prearranged times.
-Tardies/Unexcused: results in a zero for the day.
